Funeral services for J. B. "Snook" Davenport were held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Oakdale Funeral Home with Superintendent Dr. Joseph Fisher officiating. Interment followed at Pettigrew Cemetery in Perryville.
Mr. Davenport was born to Addison and Tennie Mae Robinson Davenport on July 7, 1022 in Perry County. He departed this life on June 7, 2013 in Decaturville.
He attended school in Perry and Decatur County. He worked as a sharecropper and at lumber yards in his younger years and with the railroad service later.
J. B. married Mae Tom Jones in 1945. To this union three children were born (Beverly, Joyce and Thomas Sr.)
He later married Jewel Hulliburton and they resided in Halls, Tenn. for many years.
He worked in highway construction for several years before retiring.
In his later years, he resided in Ripley, Tenn. until he moved to live with his daughter in Decaturville due to declining health. This gave him the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter that lived locally.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Tennie Davenport; brother, W. L. Davenport, sisters, Zenobia (Tink) Pettigrew and Alma Sue White; and daughter, Beverly Davenport.
He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Joyce and Rachel Davenport (Decaturville), Earnestine Rice (Parsons) and Bonita Lowery (Indianapolis, IN); sons, Thomas (Tombo) Davenport Sr. (Rockingham, NC), Tony and Ronnie Lowery (Indianapolis, IN); brother, Roland White (Cleveland, OH); 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ivy and daughter Alicia Toone (Ripley, Tenn.) and other family members and friends.
