Rattlesnake discovered while cleaning pontoon

“It almost got us,” said Carlton Sanders of Carlton’s Car Wash in Decaturville. The “it” was a timber rattler that managed to hitch a ride into town underneath a pontoon that was being washed Tuesday morning. Sanders told The News Leader on Wednesday that they began cleaning the boat around 6 that morning and unknowingly worked all around the snake till about 2 that afternoon before it made its appearance. According to Sanders, the snake struck several times at him and Terry Bolden before Bolden took care of business with a slab of lumber. When asked if that was the first time they had ever encountered a snake while cleaning, Sanders said while shaking his head, “It was the first and the last time.”
