Douglas Greenway Sr., 97, of Parsons, formerly of Linden, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021 at Green Crest Assisted Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 in the chapel of Young Funeral Home with Carolyn Parnell officiating. Interment will follow services at the Dr. O.A. Kirk Memorial Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented.

Mr. Greenway was born in Pineview, the youngest child of Francis Jefferson Greenway Jr. and Grace Duncan Greenway. Douglas graduated from Perry County High School in 1943, joining the United States Army on June 7, 1943 and as a member of the Amphibious Engineers he participated in Operation Overload, liberating France. As the war in Europe came to an end, he was deployed to the Pacific theater serving in the Philippines. After the war, he served in the Northwest, transporting POW’s for repatriation, leaving the Army in January of 1947. Upon returning to Tennessee, Douglas performed equipment maintenance, drove a truck and farmed with his father until moving his family to Michigan in the early 50’s. There he gained experience in the electrical, mechanical and machine trades before returning to Linden in 1961 and starting his own machine/welding shop, Linden Automatic Tool Co. In 1981 he was elected Alderman for the Town of Linden, then serving as Mayor from Aug. 1991 until December of 2002. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and investing in the markets.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by both of his wives, Virginia C. Greenway and Doris Greenway, along with his siblings, Francis Jefferson Greenway II, Mary J. Greenway, Helen L. Pierce and granddaughter, Kathryn R. Greenway.

Survivors include his sons, Douglas (Carrol) Greenway Jr. of Albuquerque, NW and Robert (Lisa) Greenway of Linden; grandchildren, Scott (Kristi) Greenway of Amarillo, TX, Steven Greenway of Vero Beach, FL and Thomas (April) Greenway of Parsons, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Greenway of Kriens, Switzerland, Tori (Evan) Gray of Amarillo, TX and Aiden and Taylor Greenway of Parsons, Tenn.

Memorials in Mr. Douglas Greenways name may be made to the Decatur County Shepherds Fund, Perry County Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
