Marie Epperson Monroe

Marie Epperson Monroe, 95, of Parsons, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at AHC Decatur County in Parsons.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (John) Walker of Parsons and Jackie Warpool; sons, Carl Epperson of Parsons, Roy (Robbin) Epperson of Hendersonville, Tenn., Tommy Epperson of Jackson, Tenn., Toby Warpool, Randy Warpool and Stevie Warpool; grandchildren, Nicole (James) Woodall, Amanda (Mike) Troyani, Darrell (Cari) Epperson, Crystal (Mike) Bates, Megan (Adam) Herjeczki, Sharee Richardson, Renee Hewgley and Kim Williams; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dewey Epperson and Clifton Monroe; parents, Addie and Roney Bates; brothers, Woodrow Bates, Neville Bates and Nathan Bates; sisters, Nell Churchwell, Willie Mae Churchwell and Sue Milam Podjorski; and great-grandson, Benjamin Perry.

Marie was born in Parsons and was a loving mother and grandmother; she was adventurous and her love to travel began at an early age and throughout her life. Dewey and Marie settled in Sumner County, Tennessee where she loved music and sang in the church choir and quartet.

Additional hats in her personal life she wore along with her smile and kindness, were spread out many years in the Parsons community. Marie was a lifelong member of Bunches Chapel Baptist Church, Dorcas Sewing/Quilting Club, and member of the Eastern Star. She loved to quilt and was able to grow a small business, avid gardener, caregiver and Sunday school teacher. She later found a passion to write and would write each week “The Bunches Chapel News” in the The News Leader published locally in Parsons. She wrote and published a book about her childhood growing up in Busselltown.

Visitation for Marie Epperson Monroe will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Parsons Mortuary. Visitation will continue Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at Parsons Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Parsons Mortuary chapel with Bro. Terry Rhodes officiating. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Goodlettsville, Tenn.

Serving as pallbearers were Darrell Epperson, James Woodall, Mike Troyani, Mike Bates, Adam Herjeckzi and Alex Perry. Danny Bates served as an honorary pallbearer.
